The Italian Savarez family moved to France in 1770, where they founded the company, which is known worldwide nowadays, and whose original activity was based on gut and gimped strings.
From 1880, its catalog expands with the use of new materials such as steel, bronze and brass. In 1930 the company began with the production of nylon strings, applying new calibration and control techniques to improve accuracy.
The Savarez KFA wound KF strings (silver wound fluorocarbon strings) are more especially intended for hurdy gurdy but can also be used on other instruments.
They are the natural replacement for wound gut strings, featuring more stability and longer life span.
Like the wound gut strings they offer indisputable sound qualities and perfect intonation.

- Rather than to mention the diameter, it is specified the linear density (PUL) of each string in order to determine the choice of the string according to the desired tension.
- Depending on their composition two strings can have a similar linear density (PUL) but not necessarily the same diameter, but they will sound with the same tension; and the other way around two strings that have the same diameter can have a different linear density (PUL) and will not sound with the same tension.
