Francesco Spinacino

The straps for early music instruments made at La Rossignol are completely artisanal, using the finest fabrics and materials and choosing those colors and designs that I consider most appropriate.

In the manufacturing process, only one person is involved from start to finish, and its production is exclusive and limited.

Francesco Spinacino (fl. 1507) was an Italian lute composer highly regarded by his contemporaries. His lute work was among the first to be printed using movable type and includes very complex fantasias, such as the Recercare de tutti li toni, which goes through all the modes.

STRAP ESSENTIALS AND USER GUIDE

HOW TO ATTACH THE STRAP TO THE INSTRUMENT

For correct and safe use of the straps, the instrument must have a wooden or metal button fixed to the body.

If your instrument does not have one, please contact with a luthier so they can install it using professional tools and methods.

  1. Insert the elastic band into the button. Check that it is properly secured.
  2. Wrap the headstock with each of the upper straps, each in a different direction.
  3. Tie the two straps with at least two standard knots to ensure they are secure.

To adjust the length of the available strap, you should adjust the use of the upper straps, applying more or less turns around the headstock.

The straps for early music instruments made at La Rossignol are completely artisanal, using the finest fabrics and materials and choosing those colors and designs that I consider most appropriate.

In the manufacturing process, only one person is involved from start to finish, and its production is exclusive and limited.

The materials used in their making are:

  • Jacquard straps of various styles
  • Quality satin strap
  • Thread
  • Elastic band

A sewing machine is used to join the Jacquard strap with the satin strap. The rest of the pieces are sewn by hand.
